Sports are a phenomenon increasingly visible in contemporary societies.
Gradually, research and experiences have shown the effectiveness
of sports and physical activity in many aspects of life. However,
there is still a great lack of knowledge about many aspects and
applicability. Indeed, the role of technical physical activity and
sports is often questioned, and they were relegated to ostracism.
Sports
may be an excellent way to integrate, educate, entertain, improve
bio-psycho-social health and, ultimately, achieve social transformation.
This book presents over its twelve chapters, a detailed study of
different areas that we can intervene socially through the sports.
It is a risky and quality work, which brought together some of the
best researchers in each of their areas. It approaches the issues
of great interest and relevance such as human rights, violence,
environment, motivation, health, recreation and economy. It also
deals with physical sporting interventions specific in different
groups such as women, elderly, marginalized groups, drug addicts
and people with disabilities.
Summarizing,
the book tries to show the applications that sports can have in
society, bringing together different intervention areas. It therefore
represents an essential and unique document for Sciences of Physical
Activity and Sports professionals that may turn to be an interesting
sports training manual at all levels. It is also intended to give
the world a little insight about this great unknown that is the
phenomenon of sports. "Sports, Intervention and Social Transformation"
is a collection of works that will show the manifestations of the
